Sights - Deo Me Pia Pass
This pass was originally a horse-drawn track right up until the 2000s when the government upgraded it to what we see today. The upgrade was completed in 2011 with the road being 5m wide to allow for large trucks. It serves as a major connection between Cao Bang, Ha Quang and Soc Giang.
The pass is 2.5km in length and has 14 switchback turns to get to the top making it look more like a ski slalom course than a road.
Trekking
There is a house on the top of the pass where we get dropped off. Here we can meet a local Tay family who have a restaurant here. Being so remote, it is also their home. This is a welcome little rest stop for travellers. The family are very used to trekkers and are very helpful, making sure they take the right path to get to the top of the mountain and give information about the conditions of the trail.
The trail to the top of the mountain is just under 2km and takes around 1.5 - 2hrs depending on fitness and weather conditions.
