Tours - Grand Tours
For a real cultural immersion experience of the north, a Grand Tour is the way to go. Seeing many different provinces and their different landscapes, the only limit to the tour is your imagination! We get to go trekking on some of the finest trails the country has to offer as well as seeing the different ethnic communities along the way.
Right now we have 7 and 9 day tours that travel across Sapa, Ha Giang, Cao Bang and Bac Kan (for Ba Be Lake). The provinces of the north are truly massive. Because of this - multi province tours really lend themselves to longer adventures. These longer tours are also easier to customise as we cover so much distance, we may well be close to where you wanted to add. The 7 day tour covers some 1500 kilometers over the duration of the tour for an idea.
Eco Tour Packages
We have created a couple of tour package alternatives that are better suited to couples and small groups. These options rely on the private car + driver less and therefor are cheaper. We still get in most the big name sights, however the region is vast - so be sure the itineraries include everything you want.
Getting to know the regions
While the provinces are different with different features and sights, the topography is fairly similar with minor differences. Much of the north is covered by mountains and gigantic limestone karsts that are hundreds of metres high. These karst formations often come with underground cave systems that possible to explore, some with caverns up to 50m high.
Ha Giang
Quite possibly the most remote province in Vietnam, covering some 8000 square kilometres with less than one million people - it’s very sparely populated indeed. The only way to get around here is on the Ha Giang Loop Road built in the 1960s. Because of this remoteness, difficulty of access - the region has remained preserved from outside influences. This makes it a great destination for adventurers who wish to see old ethnic cultures such as the Hmong and the Tay.
Bac Kan
This province sits between Ha Giang and Cao Bang. The star attraction here is Ba Be Lake and the Ba Be Lake National Park. In the park are more caves like the Puong Cave and Ghost Cave as well as the Nang River that we travel along with the boat tour.
Cao Bang
Slightly less remote than Ha Giang and with more Chinese influence due to it’s location next to the border, this is another huge province of 6700 square kilometres with a population of 500,000. It is home to the must see sights of Ban Gioc Waterfall, Tiger Cave, Angel Eye as well as many others.
Sapa
This area is really all about the Muong Hoa Valley. The valley is huge. The sides can reach up to one kilometre high from the valley floor and the valley is 30 kilometres long. This makes it much more a trekking location than just sight seeing, though there is plenty of that on offer here as the steep sided valley has steeply terraced rice fields that are a wonder to see.
not ready yet - We also have a 6 day tour that picks up in Ha Giang. This gives us more time for adventure and culture immersion. We travel across the province - seeing the best sights and treks it has to offer before heading over to Cao Bang where we get a chance to see the stunning Ban Gioc waterfalls and Tiger Cave amongst many other wonders.
