Tours - Sapa
These hiking and cultural tours will introduce you to some of the local ethnic tribes of the Muong Hoa Valley, with its breathtaking rice terraces and winding rivers. The steep-sided valley offers some of the best trekking Vietnam has to offer. As members of the local Hmong tribe, we have lived in this region for centuries, intimately connecting with the land and our people – allowing us to share an unparalleled insider’s perspective.
Guests can choose between two starting points for their trekking adventure. The classic tour begins in the town of Sapa, with a convenient pickup from the city center. We also offer the option to start in the more serene and less touristy village of Ta Van. Located just 12km from Sapa, Ta Van provides a more relaxed and budget-friendly entry point to your trekking tour experience.
Whichever starting point you choose, you’re sure to be captivated by the stunning landscapes, warm hospitality of the local tribes, and immersive cultural exchanges that define our trekking tours in Northern Vietnam.
Getting to know Sapa
The town of Sapa has a rich and fascinating history, first established by the French in 1905 as a hill station to escape the heat of Hanoi. Situated at an altitude of 1,500 meters, Sapa’s cooler climate and easy access via the Lao Cai railway made it an ideal retreat for colonial-era travelers.
The town of Sapa, also known as Sa Pả, is part of the Lào Cai region and has been home to a diverse array of ethnic minorities since the 17th century. The Chinese once referred to the people of the nearby villages, a mix of Hmong, Red Dao, and Green Zay tribes, as “Sa Ba,” which means “sand beach” in Mandarin.
When the French arrived, they adapted the name of the area, changing the sound to “Chapa,” which was later translated to Vietnamese, transforming the French “Ch” to the more favorable “S” – resulting in the name we know today: Sapa.
The region’s true allure lies in the stunning Muong Hoa Valley as the local ethnic groups preferred to settle in the more fertile areas. This valley, famous for its steep-sided rice terraces and breathtaking vistas, is where we’ll guide you on our trekking adventures.
Our trails follow the historic pathways that once served as the only means of passage between villages and farmlands – routes too rugged and wild to be transformed into roads. Today, these trails remain largely unchanged, offering an authentic and immersive trekking experience.
While Sapa has since become a fashionable destination for both Vietnamese and international tourists, the surrounding villages maintain their traditional charm. When staying in the Sapa region, many visitors opt for the authentic homestay experience, with the best options found in Ta Van as well as other options in Su Pan, and Giang Ta Chai.
Join us on a journey through the captivating history and cultures of the Muong Hoa Valley, where you’ll have the opportunity to connect with local ethnic communities, witness the timeless beauty of the rice terraces, and create memories that will last a lifetime.

The biggest village in the valley with many homestay’s, coffee shops and places to see. It’s like Sapa town was 10 years ago but with WiFi. There is much to explore locally and the people here are very friendly. Tours from Ta Van make the most sense for people already in the valley on holiday. Please note It may be the biggest village in the valley but it still does not have a bank / cash machine.
