Pho Bang Village

Sights - Pho Bang Village

The remote border town used to be be part of mainland China until 1961. This exchange was part of a series of border adjustments and agreements between China and Vietnam. The regions main market used to be here, but was moved to Dong Van in 1979 which is why Dong Van market is more important than ever to the region.

There was still much Chinese influence as villagers were still allowed to work and see family in China right up until 2019 when the pandemic happened and the open village border was closed for good.

Today

Today it is a quiet village, caught up in a kind of time capsule where not much has changed since 1979. Women still wash the clothing on the river banks. There is a weekly market open from 5am to 10am. During our tours here we get to meet and talk with local villagers.
