Traditional singing / dancing

The Hmong language is tonal so there is a close connection between Hmong music and their spoken language. Music is an important part of Hmong life, played for entertainment, for welcoming guests, and at weddings. Hmong musical instruments includes flutes, two-string vertical fiddle and a type of mouth organ.

There are several different types of vocal songs: storytelling songs, wishing songs, weeping songs as well as many more. The music can still be heard at Hmong cultural festivals, usually performed by community elders.

Here in Vietnam we can find singing and dancing performed in many local town or village squares at the weekends as well as professional troops who tour the different homestays to give performances.
