Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum

Getting to know...

This impressive structure commentates the leader and father of modern day Vietnam. Ho Chi Minh, the Vietnamese revolutionary leader and former President and Prime Minister of Vietnam, died on September 2, 1969 of natural causes.

Architect Garol Isakovich designed it in similar style and concept to the Soviets’ Lenin Mausoleum. Building work started in september 1973 and was completed in 1975. The building is located in the centre of Ba Dinh Square. The exterior is made of grey granite & its impressive dimensions dominate the the local area. The Soviets also helped the Vietnamese preserve Ho Chi Mins’ body.

The embalmed body of President Ho Chi Minh is preserved in the cooler, central hall of the mausoleum, which is protected by a military honour guard. The body lies in a glass case with dim lights. To respect the leader, no photography is allowed inside the mausoleum. Visitors should also dress respectfully.
