Sights - Ngoc Son Temple

This historic Buddhist temple complex sits on Jade Island on the Hoan Kiem Lake, right next to Hanoi’s Old Quarter. To get to the temple complex, you must pass through a series of gates, inscribed with Chinese letters & imagery. They are on both sides of the bridge.

The iconic Huc Bridge which means “Rising Sun Bridge” is unmissable in bright red paint. The wooden bridge was constructed in the 18th century and is constructed without nails!

Once on the Jade Island, there are a few structures. One such houses the sadly now extinct giant turtles that used to live in the lake. They have been preserved and are on display.

The temple on the island is quite small in size but larger in significance. If you really want to see large buddhist temples, then a trip to Ninh Binh is where you want to be headed.

The Rising Sun Bridge is quite possibly even more famous than the temple itself. You will see it on many Hanoi postcards.
