Seo My Ty

Sights - Seo My Ty

This small village is centred around the reservoir. Located in the national park, the 60 hectare reservoir stretches between Seo My Ty and Seo Chong Ho. It is also used for farming salmon and sturgeon. There is a nearby waterfall that feeds in to the reservoir. There are a few homestay options but the village is very small with only a few houses.

The reservoir and 24mw hydro power station were built between 2004 and 2013 and to do so, access had to be improved substantially. Before it was a one day trek to Ta Van as that was the only way - literally nothing, just hacking though the woods. Only then did villagers get electricity - they were quite excited.

Because of this historical remoteness - older people really only speak Hmong only, rarely Vietnamese though the children now have access to a school where they can learn the new language. We like to come here as it’s not really on the tourist path, we get to engage with a local culture less influenced by the outside.

*Fun footnote - many decades ago people were scared to go here from Ta Van because of number of tigers in the area. Only the brave went to Seo My Ty!
