Sights - Fairy Breast Hills

This is one of those amazing viewpoints. We don’t actually visit the hills but see them from a special viewing area - safely away from the main road. This is actually the first stop on all of the tours of Ha Giang as it is the closest from our starting point.

Fairy Legend

According to legend, in Ha Giang, there was a remarkably talented H’Mong man known for his exceptional skill in playing the “dan moi” (mouth organ). The enchanting melodies he played on his instrument were so beautiful that they reached the heavens and captivated a fairy named Hoa Dao.

Hoa Dao fell deeply in love with the man from her celestial vantage. As the stories of love between celestial beings and mortals often unfold, their union faced insurmountable challenges. Despite the strong bond they shared, Hoa Dao was compelled to return to the heavens due to the immutable laws governing the celestial realm.

Before departing, however, she left a lasting gift on Earth. The area surrounding where she and the H’Mong man met became incredibly fertile, particularly conducive to the cultivation of fruits and other crops. This miraculous transformation of the land was seen as a symbol of her love and a tangible reminder of her visit.

The legend imbues the landscape of Ha Giang with a romantic aura, adding to the mystical appeal of its natural beauty. The “Fairy Breast Hills” are particularly associated with this legend. These twin hills, lush and rounded, are said to represent the fairy’s presence and her nurturing spirit, forever guarding the land and blessing it with fertility. This tale adds a rich layer of cultural and mythical significance to the region, drawing travelers not just to witness its natural beauty but also to experience the depth of its local folklore.
