Getting to know...
Hoa Binh Lake is the reservoir section of the Da River / Black River that spreads out through the mountains west of Mai Chau. In the Mai Chau area it is most often accessed via Suoi Lon, a quiet lakeside settlement reached in around 20 minutes from the valley.
The scenery here is very different from Ban Lac and Pom Coong. Instead of rice paddies and flat valley roads, the landscape opens into broad water, folded hills and scattered fishing activity along the shore. It makes a good contrast with the cultural and village visits elsewhere in the region.
