Mai Chau Valley is a picturesque valley in Hoa Binh Province, located approximately 135km southwest of Hanoi. The valley is home to the White Thai ethnic minority, who have lived here for generations in traditional wooden stilt houses.
The valley is known for its stunning scenery - emerald green rice paddies surrounded by towering limestone karsts. It offers a peaceful contrast to the busier tourist destinations in northern Vietnam.
Best time to visit
The valley is beautiful year-round, but the rice paddies are at their most photogenic in spring (March-May) when they are bright green, and just before harvest (September-October) when they turn golden.
