This walk begins around Mai Hich and heads on towards Te Village, a White Thai settlement in a quieter part of the Mai Chau area. It is a good first-afternoon route because it is long enough to feel rewarding without being overly demanding after the drive from Hanoi.
The trek is around 6km and usually takes a couple of hours at a relaxed pace. Along the way you pass rice fields, local paths, streams and farming land, with plenty of chances to stop for photos and enjoy the slower pace of village life.
The finish in Te Village works particularly well for an overnight stay, as it brings you into a more settled local atmosphere by late afternoon rather than returning to the busier Ban Lac area.
