Ban Ho Village

Sights - Ban Ho Village

A lovely ethnically Tay village just past Su Pan 2, on the way down the valley - just past the hydro power station that provides around 34mw of electricity for the valley.

This village has its very own hot springs! With the village being at the bottom of the valley, the main village itself is quite flat so cycling is also popular here - one of the few places that cycling is realistic because of the steep gradients everywhere else.

There are lovely steep sided rice terraces just outside of the village centre as well as some corn fields. Corn is typically grown where you can’t get access to enough fresh water or the grade of the hillside is too steep. It is not uncommon to see corn fields on 30 degree hillsides! The people here really do utilise every square metre.

More unique to Ban Ho is growing tapioca (it is grown elsewhere but only in small patches). Tapioca is more prevalent here as the ground conditions and hotter temperatures in Ban Ho suit it better than the higher altitude and cooler climate nearer Sapa.

The only way to cross is via one of the many suspension bridges. Only strong enough for people and scooters.
