Tours - Ta Van to the high up Hang Da Village
Starting further down in the heat of the Muong Hoa Valley, this tour starting in Ta Van is a single day tour to sample some of the great trekking the Sapa region has to offer.
We pick you up from your hotel / homestay in Ta Van - we can recommend places to stay if you would like some help choosing. Fabulous lunch is included as well as the taxi to return to your preferred Ta Van or Sapa location.
Experience some good old fashioned home stay hospitality from one of the local tribes as we overnight in Su Pan 2. Evening meal, lunches and breakfast included naturally.
We will get to see the bamboo forests, rice terraces, some local tribes people, a lovely waterfall as well as the possibility of a swim! As this tour is starting further down the valley - there are also far less tourists on this route.
Itinerary
Day One - Ta Van to Su Pan 2
08:45
We start the tour early. Leaving Ta Van Village to head to for lunch where Hmong & Dao people live.
09:00
To get there, we must travel though the bamboo forest. Access is via a small footpath that leads up from the village. When the footpath ends we cross the tops of some rice terraces. If it’s harvest season we may chat to a farmer, if you are interested we can even help out for a bit & learn some farming! We then ascend some more into the forest. The forest is alive with birdsong. There is the sound of running water too if it has been raining recently.
11:30
We exit the forest & find ourselves at a lovely waterfall. We stop to take some photos. The waterfall is nearly 100m from the very top. It is possible to swim in the pool at the top if there is enough water. We can talk with some locals here if you wish - the locals love to talk. To cross the Muong Hoa river we must do a little “rock hopping”.
12:00
In Giang Ta Chai we have a choice of 2 locations for lunch. Either with Cam, a local or having a picnic. Lunch is Vietnamese style - pork / chicken, steamed rice / noodles, spring rolls. All freshly made and very delicious.
13:00
Hugging the river (Giang Ta Chai is on both sides of the river) we travel heading towards Su Pan 2. On the way we see some homes of the Red Dao. If you wish, we can stay to a chat and find out about their way of life. Continuing our journey we find a narrow path that takes us through a second smaller bamboo forest. We then ascend the valley to get to our final stop - Su Pan 2. This takes about an hour from valley floor to the village.
16:00
Su Pan 2 is the location of our homestay for the night. We have a little time to explore the local surroundings before supper or maybe even just catch the sunset in to the valley.
19:00
Food is a mixture of Hmong, Dao and Vietnamese so we are in for a treat! I recommend the black chicken and black pork as you can only get them here. Delicious.
Su Pan 2 to Hang Da
07:30
Breakfast is a choice of local style Pho or French pancakes (crêpes). There is also tea and coffee. Enough to fuel us for the exciting day ahead.
10:00
Hau Tao is the our first destination of the day some 4km away. To get there we must climb higher up the valley to the old buffalo trail that has now been improved to become a single track countryside road.
10:30
Hau Tao has a nice nice waterfall and bridge that still remains from before the trail was improved. We stop here for a few moments to take photos. Buffalo must still remember the place as many like to rest here too.
11:30
We carry on up the path to Hau Tru Ngai where we stop for a few moments to catch our breath. The views are amazing, rice terraces both sides as well as large amounts of bamboo growing. Lunch is soon so we don’t stop here too long. We press on upwards as the trail gets steeper!
13:00
Lunch is served with a view! Hang Da village. The food is a selection of Vietnamese and Hmong. We stop here for an hour to eat and rest as the last part of the trek is a hard gradient.
14:00
Thats all folks! We can take you by car back to Sapa town or to Ta Van. We hope you had a great time over the two days of trekking and that we met some fun and interesting people along the way.
